Sanded Metal Tools

The last group of supplies I found in the packet was some Old Olive cardstock, some Basic Black cardstock and this metal embellishment that Susan made*. I had a difficult time deciding which stamps to use. I thought about Heartfelt Thanks, but I didn’t want to introduce a third color. I thought about Infinite Goodness, but the sketchy lines didn’t really match the feel of the metal tag. So finally I settled on For Father.

The first thing I did was stamp the Sanded background on the Old Olive cardstock in Versamark. Then I swiped the edges of the Old Olive with my Basic Black ink pad. Next, I stamped the tool box image in Old Olive, then stamped the Sanded background over it in Versamark. I sprinkled it with gold embossing powder and then brushed off most of the powder so that you could still see the image. I embossed the gold over the tool box image to tie in with the metal tag. The image is mounted on Basic Black cardstock.

*Pop Can Embellishments were posted on Sue’s blog. Here are her instructions:

This card is made from Stampin Up! designer paper and the center piece is a piece of a soda can. It may look a little bare but I wanted to showcase the oval I made from a soda can.

Ok, the question was asked yesterday, how I made my embellishments from soda cans. Well, I will attempt to tell you and give you a link.

First be very careful when doing this because you could get cut. I took an aluminium soda can and cut out the middle with just a regular pair of scissors. In the case below, I took out my coluzzle, lay out the piece of metal I got from the can and cut an oval. Then I ran it through my cuttlebug.

To get the color on the embellishment, I played with inks again. The base is a metallic copper refill bottle for encore ink pad. I then added some white pearl ex which turns a greenish color. Then I put clear embossing powder over the sticky messy and heated. The last part was to add versa- mark to the edges and some gold embossing powder.

Below you can see more embellishments that I cut out with my punches. Mel Stampz had a great post about this. You can find it here http://melstampz.blogspot.com/2008/06/ouuu-im-giddy-pop-cans-sharpen-punches.html
